Dyngus Day Approacheth

...and for the first time since I left my western New York home for love and adventure many years ago, I will be properly equipped with pussy willow branches when Dyngus Day rolls around -- which means that I will actually get to observe the holiday (incidentally, it falls on April Fool's Day this year). Since I'm nowhere near Buffalo, am not Catholic (anymore) or Polish, and am not a fan of polkas, gazing nostalgically at my pussy willow is pretty much all I've got.  ;-D

But boy, it's gorgeous, and it really does remind me of home (there used to be a big crop of pussy willow growing next to my Grandpa's barn).

I tell my kids about Dyngus day and they look at me like I'm making it up!

That sure is a gorgeous pussy willow! I have a soft spot for them, too, since childhood. I've got at least a month before they start budding here.

That was the exciting thing about the pussy willow I remember next to Grandpa's barn -- when we saw buds, it was a sure sign of spring!

I've got mine hung to dry at the moment, but I'm hoping that it'll last for quite a while after Dyngus Day since it makes me feel so warm and fuzzy. ;)
