Victims...

Two things, as this Saturday winds down..

First, (scroll all the way down), my friend Joy seems to have the last word in this discussion. Nicely done.

And Jon Stewart turns his eye on conservative victims as well...

I've read somewhere that US Christianity has moved away from charity to absolution, i.e. it's no longer about helping others but about getting forgiveness. That would explain the increased unwillingness to pay for "freeloaders" (like there are that many of those), but where in the world does this absolute belief in the (rights of the) rich come from? It's like the American dream has morphed into a psychosis.

I think Christianity in general has always been, to some degree, about enriching the lives of a small number of people. This waxes and wanes throughout history and from denomination to denomination, but at the moment, it appears to be on the upswing in many US churches, thanks largely to the inattentiveness and flat out ignorance of our people. If you don't think for yourself, someone else will do it for you, and that's where American politicians are happy to step in and help out their biggest donors -- by delivering the sheeple who will support dangerous tax breaks that help no one but the super rich and their puppets in Congress.
