On this day...

Shemini Atzeret begins at sunset, and it's the Feast of Abd-al-Masih. Abraham Lincoln set the date of the American Thanksgiving, the first woman to serve in the US Senate was appointed, and Edgar Allan Poe was rescued from a gutter -- all today. Also, Pravda was founded, and both the Mickey Mouse Club and Captain Kangaroo premiered. It's the anniversary of German reunification and the OJ verdict. It's the birthday of John Ross (founder of Chattanooga), Gore Vidal, Thomas Wolfe, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Perry Barlow, Chubby Checker, Lindsey Buckingham, Al Sharpton, and Keiko Agena.

And it's the day Emmie joined our family.

And as a gift to you, Emmie, I am not posting a baby photo here in this space. ;-D

from the wiki on john perry barlow: "He is a former chairman of the Sublette County Republican Party and served as campaign manager for Dick Cheney during his 1978 Congressional campaign."

I had to read that twice just to make sure I was understanding correctly. Who woulda thunk it?

(happy birthday to DD!)

Barlow is a pretty twisted dude. His intentions are good, though, and his songwriting is great...
