Deborah Kerr & Joey Bishop

For those of us who missed Ms. Kerr's movies the first time around, we were reminded of her work by that great scene in Sleepless in Seattle with Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson. She died on Tuesday. She joined Joey Bishop, the last of the Rat Pack, who died on Monday.

Because I grew up with people old enough to remember when pictures didn't talk, there are many of the 30's and 40's black-and-white movies and "old-timers" that are a part of my childhood. Which is probably why I am saddened at hearing of Deborah Kerr's passing, while having no clue who Joey Bishop is.

The adults who surrounded me when I was growing up weren't movie type people, but one of the neighborhood kids didn't do much besides watch old movies on the weekend, so I picked up a bit here and there from him and was aware of Deborah Kerr. I never was familiar with Joey Bishop when I was a kid, though, because we was a late-night guy, and I didn't know anyone who tuned into TV at that hour. I became aware of him later, in more of a pop-culture kind of way.

There is clearly a lot of information to identify about this.
