Travel Days

Yesterday was a travel day and tomorrow will be another one, but right now I'm enjoying a rare day at home. I've got a pile of laundry to get through and a lot to think about, but not much to say yet -- I'm still processing.

It's been a while since I've shared a picture of a person here, so before I change locations on you again, here's one more shot from Florida. It's Emmie on one of the boats we took out into the Gulf for a sea burial ceremony.

A sea-burial sounds much more - "lovely", if such a word can ever be applied to a funeral.

Oh, it was very nice. The boat ride was thrilling and the brief ceremony itself was very moving. And a manatee and a dolphin showed up for the proceedings!

And now, when we want to visit him, instead of going to a cemetery, we'll get to go to the beach -- we put his ashes in the sea just offshore at the most beautiful beach on Anna Maria Island.
