Friday Creature

Seriously, I do eventually plan to get back to birds and other warm-blooded beasts. It just happens that I keep encountering interesting bugs lately. Like this hairy arachnid, who was waiting for me in my shower yesterday morning. Anyone know what kind of spider this is? He's not quite as big as is implied by the photo, but this way you can make out the details a bit (and don't worry -- I helped him to find another place to hang out, so he did not drown and was not squished).

As always, you can see a variety of other creatures over on the the Modulator's Ark. Have a great weekend!

We have this kind here in Norway, too. We call them wolf spiders, pisaura mirabilis.

I'm glad to hear it's not poisonous. I didn't kick it out of the house -- just out of the shower...

eeek!

I think I would'a kicked it out of the house. I'm pretty good with the more-than-four legged crew, but big spiders still do give me the willies...

Sravana, who got tired of Mozilla crashing on her, and finally updated to Firefox. :)

If it's a wolf spider like Keera says, they can sometimes be found with lots of babies on their backs. I've heard tell of people trying to smack wolf spiders with things and then getting swarmed by the surviving babies who are (needless to say) out for Shakspearean revenge.

Hence their other name: The nursery (web) spider.
