Friday Creature

I hope no one is getting tired of pictures of birds at my feeders. I haven't had the opportunity to take photos of creatures in any other setting in a while, but I suppose shots out the window are more in keeping with the title of this blog anyway. It's always exciting to see a nuthatch at my feeder since these elegant birds don't visit very often.

Want more creatures? There are plenty at the Friday Ark. Have a great weekend!

Birds are the best... not sure why. Anyway, I appreciate you sticking to it. I keep seeing your photos and think to myself - "My daughter Emma and I should start a Monday morning bird photo to compliment Alice's work..." We quietly go out our side gate most mornings to catch the cardinals on the way to school - we have about 4-6 that feed in our back yard and Emma thinks gets this excited and endearing tone in her voice each time - I hope she never grows out of that.

When we bought the place about five years ago we put up a cattle run on the south end and encouraged honeysuckle to grow there. The cardinals loved it (along with the raspberry bushes we planted later) and most years we have several families that call our yard home. I haven't counted the various species yet and my old zoology teacher would be sad to know that I haven't been charting their numbers and frequency (sorry Mr. Weiss).

Anyway, nice to see the nuthatch today.

I might have to start one, too. My son and I have gotten into bird feeding/watching and we now have three feeders hanging off our deck--a thistle feeder, a regular wild bird hopper and a suet cage. Besides being inundated by a flock of goldies, we have seen several nuthatches and tufted titmouses (I chuckle every time I say that for some reason).

Thanks. I never get tired of the bird pictures and would definitely enjoy seeing the efforts of others! A friend and I have been discussing the idea of getting together with other bird-lovers for a hike somewhere in the area. If we can get it together this spring, I'll post the info here and maybe you'd be interested in joining us (it might even flush a few lurkers out of the shadows!).

That would be great! I'd love to see more local birds, and the modulator could always use more birds to balance out the dozens of cats that turn up there every friday! ;-D

I look forward to your bird pictures every Friday, I hope you'll always share them.

BTW- Eastern Bluebird Alert! I saw the first female at my open feeder this morning. I'm going over to the bait store for some mealworms as soon as I get off work. Spring is almost here.

woot! You're up pretty far, too (relative to Tennessee), so they must be shopping around for housing down here as well! Thanks for the headsup!
